The Chinese government recently released the newest report on the state of major cryptocurrency ecosystems, produced by the Center for Information and Industry Development (CCID). The latest ranking shows Bitcoin (BTC) has stepped down from the leading position. This time, the index has included TRON (TRX), which displaced Ethereum (ETH) from position 2 in the ranking. However, the 10th installment of the index has put EOS at the top.

BTC increases its ranking from position 15 to position 13, leading to criticisms on the selection criteria. EOS is seen as a promising network, despite it being riddled with problems and is yet to prove that its block production approach is viable in the long term.

In the latest report, NEO has fallen to position 10 from position 7 previously, while Komodo (KMD) falls from position 10 to position 16 in a month.

The CCID index is composed of the usability of the technology, the popularity of the blockchain and its creativity. This partially explains why more complex projects with novel approaches to mining manage to take the spots near the top with the highest number of points.

The CCID index also constantly expands with new types of assets, recently adding Tezos (XTZ) and NULS. The ranking has no bearing on the market price and relative position of each asset, and most of the best-ranked coins and networks have lost significantly since their peak prices.

The Chinese government is closely tracking the developments in the crypto space. On the one hand, mainland China has banned ICOs and fiat-to-crypto exchanges, to achieve its goal of capital controls and protect from personal finance losses. At the same time, Chinese projects are booming, especially with the case of TRON which seems to have taken the leading position from the previous favorite, NEO.

While EOS is the overall leader, TRON is also near the top in categories such as applicability and creativity. The CCID rating arrives at a point where EOS and TRON distributed apps are also showing their dominance compared to the activity on the Ethereum network. Gambling dApps are boosting the activity of both EOS and TRON.
