Crypto Celebrity John McAfee to Launch Freedom Token in the Fall
After boosting the social media presence of multiple coins and tokens, John McAfee amped the freedom and independence message with a newly promised digital coin.
John McAfee amplifies his message of freedom and independence with a newly planned digital asset - a coin called Freedom, that is expected to launch in the fall. The launch of the new asset coincides with a series of tweets from McAfee, underlining the importance of personal and economic freedom.
The Freedom coin is only pre-announced on a simple website, with no sale dates or technological details. The coin is aimed to be a means of exchange, in effect creating a separate economy with an intuitive flow of value. The asset’s description is rather vague, and does not explicitly promise a peg to the US dollar.
“The McAfee Freedom Coin is designed to confront the problem of exchange head on, using a unique paradigm and a new structural concept. It is not based on any commodity nor is it connected to the value or behavior of any external item or entity. The value of the coin will always be zero in relation to any other currency yet it's natural market value is free, completely, to grow,” the coin’s description points out.
In effect, the Freedom Coin resembles other projects aiming at being the coin of an informal economy. The claim of no dollar-based price resembles that of Dogecoin (DOGE), which is used without aiming for an exchange rate.
Just like with other coins, it is up to its users and merchants to accept it as a means of payment. So far, multiple attempts have been made to replace money with a digital asset. But merchants usually only accept the most liquid coins, which can be readily exchanged for fiat.
McAfee also ramped up his anti-government sentiment, underlining the fact that Binance, one of the most widely used cryptocurrency exchanges, restricts US-based users for some of its activities. The CEO of Binance, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao pointed out that the Binance DEX remained open to anyone:
