Singapore-based cryptocurrency exchange operator GCOX (Global Crypto Offering Exchange) on Thursday formally introduced its first series of celebrity tokens, called the PAC token, in partnership with world boxing legend and Philippine Senator Manny Pacquiao.

The launch was held at the Blockchain Fair Asia 2018, held in Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines.

“We aim to revolutionize the interaction between celebrities and fans by bringing about closer engagement via new and innovative ways,” GCOX said at the launch.

Pacquiao, the “Fighting Senator fromSaranggani” earned the distinction of being the only boxer in history to have won eight world titles in different divisions. He won his first major championship in 1998 and by July 2018, had won a total of 60 victories.

Besides boxing, Pacquiao has been elected twice as Congressman representing his district in the southern Philippines. In 2016 Pacquiao won a six-year term as Senator.

The PAC token will be used on the GCOX platform to purchase exclusive merchandise and services from Team Manny. It will also facilitate interactions with the boxing icon through meet-and-greet events as well as live streaming via a feature known as Celeb-Connect. Other core business platforms on GCOX will include Celeb-Charity, Celebreneur, and Celeb-Listing.

Several other celebrities are already on board the Celebrity Token platform, including English footballer Michael Owen and American singer Jason Derulo, but the company said the list is expected to expand in the coming months to include other celebrities from across the globe and from the Philippines as well.

GCOX pointed out that the emergence of blockchain technology had created new possibilities for the creation of the Celebrity Tokens through the launch of ITS, thus allowing the listing of the “cryptonized version” of these celebrities’ popularity on a crypto exchange.

Prior to the Blockchain Fair Asia event, GCOX sent an e-mail to Cryptovest describing the two-day conference, which ended on Friday, as “separating realistic promise from uncertain probability in the highly-hyped blockchain industry.”

“We are proud to have Manny Pacquiao as the first international celebrity on our exchange. Manny and other celebrities will also have the opportunity for increased engagement with their fans, further extending their reach and expanding their popularity.”
