Blockchain Developer Job Offers Grow Fastest on LinkedIn

Job listings for blockchain developers have grown at unprecedented rates this year in LinkedIn.

Job listings for blockchain developers have grown at unprecedented rates this year in LinkedIn.

Although the bear cryptocurrency market has persisted for a while now, the blockchain community is doing really well, enjoying unprecedented growth in job opportunities for developers, according to LinkedIn’s 2018 Emerging JobsReport.

“It’s no surprise that we’re seeing an explosion of machine learning roles and continuing growth of data science roles… It also may not shock you that Blockchain Developer is topping the list following this year’s surge in interest around blockchain and cryptocurrency,” LinkedIn chief economist Guy Berger commented.

Blockchain jobs top the list in terms of growth, with 33 times as many posted in 2018 as in the previous year.

A closer look at the analysis results shows that the most sought-after skills include competence in Solidity (smart contract development), Ethereum, cryptocurrencies, and Node.js. These skills are usually required in the development of crypto applications like wallets or smart contracts for tokens.

IBM, ConsenSys, and Chainyard seem to generate the largest number of listings in the blockchain space on LinkedIn. As for location, the strongest US demand comes from San Francisco, New York City, and Atlanta.

However, these statistics may not reflect the overall global job market as LinkedIn is primarily used by North American and European companies. Businesses located in India, for example, tend to do their recruiting with job ads on Indeed. A recent analysis of job offerings on the latter reveals significant growth in blockchain and cryptocurrency-related jobs in India as well, meaning that the phenomenon may be more widespread than LinkedIn’s numbers indicate.
