Amazon’s Managed Blockchain Becomes Generally Available
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Launches New Blockchain Service
Amazon Web Services (AWS) announce the launch of its new blockchain service which is now generally available to its customers.
Online marketplace giant, Amazon, has officially launched its AWS managed blockchain service, which aims to ‘makes it easy [for companies] to create and manage scalable blockchain networks’.
The AWS Managed Blockchain is an open source network similar to Ethereum, and claims to be highly scalable. According to the press statement, the new blockchain solution will be capable of handling ‘thousands of applications and millions of transactions’, and will make it far easier for clients to leverage the advantages of DLT technology without the labor-intensive work involved with setting up networks using existing frameworks.
"Customers simply choose their preferred framework (Hyperledger Fabric is supported at launch with Ethereum support coming later this year), add network members, and configure the member nodes that process transaction requests. Amazon Managed Blockchain takes care of the rest"
The General Manager of Amazon Managed Blockchain at AWS, Rahul Pathak, goes on to explain:
"Amazon Managed Blockchain takes care of provisioning nodes, setting up the network, managing certificates and security, and scaling the network. Customers can now get a functioning blockchain network set up quickly and easily, so they can focus on application development instead of keeping a blockchain network up and running."
The service offers a profound benefit to companies that process high volumes of transactions across multiple countries through a number of different branches; particularly finance, tech, energy, logistics, and retail focused businesses.
So far, American mobile telecommunications giant, AT&T, is listed as one of the leading companies currently using this flagship service, along with multinational food and beverage company, Nestle, and the operator of Singapore’s securities and derivatives exchange, SGX Ltd.
The arrival of this new blockchain service marks a significant milestone for the technology’s global adoption - as one of the world’s most valuable public companies recognizes the huge potential that DLT has across a wide range of industries. By simplifying the existing processes to build a blockchain network, Amazon is making blockchain technology even more accessible to some of the market’s biggest players.
