Australia’s First Blockchain Course Launched in Melbourne

The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) announced on Tuesday it would offer a two-month blockchain course, with the start date set for March 19. Australia’s first course of this kind was prepared by RMIT’s Blockchain Innovation Hub, professional services provider Accenture, and fintech hub Stone and Chalk.

Blockchain Innovation Hub director Jason Pottstold Business Insider that blockchain was quite difficult to understand.

“It’s one of those things where a whole lot of different technologies have come together to contribute to it working. Much of this course is designed to help executives and business leaders to understand not just how this new technology works, and understanding what’s actually behind it, but also how it reflects business models and business strategy,” he said.

RMIT hopes the course will attract business leaders and entrepreneurs keen to improve their knowledge of the emerging technology and understand how blockchain could impact their business.

As RMIT vice-chancellor Martin Bean put it, “blockchain is now becoming a core part of contemporary digital literacy.”

The Blockchain Strategy, as the course is titled, will cover the following key areas:

  • The concept of blockchain technology: Overview of the fundamental principles behind blockchain.
  • Blockchain’s impact on the society: Analysis of how blockchain influences social structures and interactions.
  • Blockchain use cases in various industries: Examination of practical applications across different sectors.
  • Blockchain value propositions: Discussion on the benefits and value added by blockchain technology.
  • Strategic frameworks for adopting the technology to your company: Guidance on integrating blockchain into business models.
  • Technical aspects of blockchain: Exploration of the technical foundations and workings of blockchain systems.

Elsewhere, Google has decided to attract potentials by organizing a lecture called “Fundamentals and Some Recent Innovations in Crypto-Currencies” at the Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy. The talk is planned for March 8 and will precede Google’s two-day recruitment event.

Last week, we reported that Russia was launching its first blockchain school, where classes are also scheduled to start in March in Moscow. The course will focus on the Ethereum blockchain.
