Justin Sun, John McAfee and Vitalik Buterin Top List of Crypto Influencers on Twitter

Crypto Twitter is where the crypto community hangs out and a recent top influencer ranking rates Justin Sun as number one, followed by John McAfee and Vitalik Buterin.

Justin Sun rightfully deserves the title of top crypto celebrity, in the top 15 crypto influencers ranking compiled by WebCelebs. Sun, the co-founder of TRON, knows how to milk social media hype for all its worth. Often ridiculed for his practice of announcing his announcements in advance, and setting multiple overhyped milestones for TRON, Sun still manages to keep his project in the spotlight.

Sun boasts a total of 1.65 million followers, and never misses the chance to tweet. But social media was also quite unforgiving when he delayed the charity lunch with Warren Buffet, and has given no details on the possibilities that the historic lunch will take place.

The other Twitter handle with extraordinary influence was John McAfee, with 1.06 million followers. His account possibly caused the outlandish bull markets for coins like Verge (XVG), once he tweeted about a series of assets in his “McAfee Coin of the Day”.

McAfee’s other notable stunts include a series of messages supposedly revealing the real Satoshi Nakamoto. Currently, he is documenting his self-reported run from the authorities, by earth, air and sea.

Vitalik Buterin remains the top third account offering insights, comments, and often bitter conflicts within the crypto space. Armed with a unique style of expression and complex rundowns on crypto technology, Buterin’s account has been hijacked in a series of Twitter scams offering free Ethereum (ETH).

Charlie Lee, with 834,000 followers, is still in the top 5, though in the past he has been called the most influential voice of cryptocurrencies. Lee would make appearances on CNBC along with his Twitter commentary, but lately, he has been relatively silent, as Litecoin is navigating lack of funding and a falling altcoin market.

Roger Ver caps the top five Twitter celebrities, with 589,000 followers. Ver has become something of an antihero, using his Twitter handle less often as a Bitcoin evangelist, and more often to comment on block size and spread the word about Bitcoin Cash.

It’s a curiosity that one of the most dedicated Bitcoin supporters, Andreas Antonopoulos, only has 499,000 supporters. This did not stop fans from sending in 37 BTC to one of his addresses as a sign of appreciation for the selfless lecturing.

Smaller Twitter accounts are no less influential. Whale Panda, with 222,000 followers, gives the position of a Bitcoin maximalist on almost all issues. Along with Lee, he is a member of the Magical Crypto Friends, and often quoted on crypto media.

The rest of the list of top 15 influencers includes trading legends such as Peter Todd, as well as project leaders: Sasha Ivanov of Waves, and NEO’s Da Hongfei, among other commenters, traders, and currently hot accounts.

Crypto Twitter remains one of the most agile sources of sentiment detection, where often a single tweet can move the markets. It is also an arena of fights and controversy, revealing the latest contentious issues in crypto space. With attempts at doxxing @hodlonaut, and even swatting Jameson Lopp based on his opinions, Crypto Twitter is not a harmless place, but is one of the key tools for crypto popularization.
