Interview: DREAM Implements Blockchain, AI in Scalable Solution for Freelance Market
Cryptovest interviewed DREAM.ac about its project to develop a blockchain platform that facilitates building freelance teams.
DREAM (previously Moneo.io), a leading marketplace for blockchain talent, has developed a scalable platform for hiring freelance teams with the implementation of AI, blockchain technology, and a token reward system.
Cryptovest had a chance to discuss some of the key points surrounding the project, and the Q&A session is presented below.
Q: What do you think are the main challenges in hiring professionals to build effective teams, and how is DREAM helping?
A: Most customers know what their end goal is, i.e. what they want to build, but they don’t know how to get there. So the first challenge is scoping out what is needed.
The second challenge is pulling together a team of people who are capable of delivering the work; a team you can rely on.
The current freelance market is set up for hiring individuals. You post a job, receive a dozen proposals, and it’s very hard to make the best hire. Freelance sites basically do two core things - match client jobs with freelancers and handle payments.
Q: How do you address these problems?
A: We leverage AI to model past outcomes to scope projects and build teams with the right skills and fit. The solution scales from blockchain, to freelancing, to enterprise.
We leverage blockchain to give ownership of reputations to our users. For example, a freelancer can import their verified resume from R_Block into DREAM, and their success on DREAM will be added to the decentralized R_Block resume.
Freelancers can bring their verified skills from Indorse to DREAM, and back again, and customers can promote their projects on Indorse.
Q: We understand DREAM was formerly Moneo.io, can you tell us about the Moneo platform and its evolution into DREAM?
A: Moneo was launched in 2015 as a marketplace for the privacy-focused coin Monero (when its price was just a few cents).
I was unable to hire anyone to develop the payment system. All the Monero developers wanted to remain anonymous and chat through a forum, which didn’t work.
We decided to go with Bitcoin as it was most widely adopted and I was able to find someone to build the payment system (which we recently open sourced here).
The progression from Moneo was DREAM (a play on Decentralized Remote Teams). Moneo was going to be an app in the DREAM ecosystem, however, since joining Chinaccelerator in March 2018, it became apparent that it was too difficult to explain two brands and we went on with DREAM.
The team aspect (DREAM) came about because every day we get asked by clients to pull together a team, and the model simply doesn’t scale.
Q: What is the geographic distribution of your markets? Where do you plan to launch first?
A: The clients and freelancers on the marketplace are globally dispersed (pretty much in every country). However, we have no real penetration in China due to their restriction on our primary channels such as social networks, Google, etc.
Having spent a lot of time in China, it’s definitely a market we want to develop. Despite ICOs being banned, blockchain is a very hot topic.
Q: What is the type of freelancer you are targeting? What skill sets is your project aiming at?
A: We’re really going after the higher end guys, the average price on DREAM is $100/hour. People often associate freelancing with low-end gigs, whereas we have successful entrepreneurs on DREAM who want to give something back and help young startups.
Q: Can you briefly explain the role of the DREAM token in the ecosystem? How will the token be held, in what wallet, how will it be awarded?
A: We published our Token Mechanics here. We address a fundamental problem with AI, which is data classification. There is no way we could model past project outcomes without customer insights, and we achieve that by paying through our tokens.
DREAM Token is a payments token backed by smart contracts used to pay for freelancers, gigs, and premium services. We will also charge for API access for insights into our data sets.
We’ve already proven through DREAM Rewards that tokens are a powerful marketing tool and have had 50,000 claims so far. We will continue DREAM Rewards as an off-platform customer acquisition channel.
At the moment the only incentive to achieve profile completion on DREAM is to get listed on our website. Part of our customer acquisition costs will be paid through DREAM Tokens to push users further down the funnel.
With regards to the wallet, that’s a product detail that we’ll get to. We want to have a simple UI, however, we also don’t want to reduce our security risk, so we’re looking to leverage an open source platform.
Q: How do you protect records and reputations in an immutable manner?
A: We’re leveraging open standard ERC725 along with our partners. Here is an interview from our advisor Fabian that explains more.
Q: What is the next important step in your roadmap? What is the biggest challenge to the project?
A: Our whole team is focussed on the token sale, so that’s our priority during July and August. We are, however, working on our deal flow for the core business, talking with corporates, and other blockchain projects.
Q: Would you like to add anything else to better present your platform?
A: We’ve answered hundreds of questions and adapted the project many times. We produced this blog that brings everything together into one place - I’d highly recommend reading through it. It provides an overview with links to more details.
