oel Monegro spent three years as a member of the investment team at Union Square Ventures (USV), focusing on its blockchain investment strategy. The venture capital company has emerged as one of the strongest supporters of blockchain-related startups, its portfolio including crypto exchanges Coinbase and GDAX and decentralized marketplace protocol OpenBazaar. Monegro left USV in 2017 to launch crypto investment fund Placeholder Capital in partnership with Chris Burniske, a blockchain expert previously employed by ARK Investment Management. Monegro, who studied computer science and economics, co-founded three companies before joining USV. Two of them folded and one remains in business. He also worked for the Dominican Republic government as manager of the Digital Economy Department. His responsibilities were public programs supporting local startups and policy measures to promote initiatives in cybersecurity, internet access, and digital payments.
